Just took a trip to the Florida Keys.
I got a great rate on this very nice resort hotel.
I flew in to Ft. Lauderdale on Monday.
By the time I got into the Keys, it was already dark.
I stopped at a Mexican restaurant where they gave you a free cotton candy after your meal.
Since I don't really like cotton candy, I made this face.
I was staying on Duck Key - near Marathon in the middle of the Keys. On Tuesday, I drove down to Key West. Went to Mallory Square (too overcast for a sunset), shopped on Duval Street and toured Hemingway's home.
On Wednesday, I toured parks and nature centers and took a walk on an old bridge preserved as a pedestrian/bike trail.
I was supposed to be "trainer for a day" with the dolphins, but it was too cold to get in the water with them. Here's a pic of my dockside encounter, though. Loved it!
Also visited another dolphin center in Marathon. Got to see a 6 week old dolphin - only about 3 feet long!
On my whole trip, it was unusually cold. My dinners were on normally open patios with closed windscreens - jacket required for warmth.
On Thursday, I went south again to Bahia Honda State Park and to look for the Key Deer. The Key Deer visitor's center was in a strip mall patrolled by roosters. Didn't see the deer on long walks, but, rather, by the roads.
On my last night I attended a Marathon Community Theatre performance of "Sylvia". Very cute.
Back home on Friday. I'd like to go back, especially for the Key Largo area.
